These Terms and Conditions explain the basis on which O.Barnes / OB Electrical provides electrical services to customers. By requesting a quote, booking work, accepting an estimate, using this website, or instructing O.Barnes / OB Electrical to carry out work, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.

O.Barnes / OB Electrical provides electrical services for domestic and commercial properties across Dorset and surrounding areas. Services may include electrical installations, repairs, inspection and testing, EICR reports, remedial work, emergency electrical services, rewires, light fittings, heating circuits, CCTV, doorbells, smoke alarms, fire alarm systems and other related electrical work.

Quotes and estimates

O.Barnes / OB Electrical may provide a free quote or estimate based on the information supplied by the customer. A quote or estimate may be given after discussing the work, reviewing photographs, visiting the property, or assessing the information available at the time.

Any quote or estimate is based on the visible and known scope of work at the time it is provided. If additional work, hidden faults, unsafe wiring, access issues, defective materials, regulatory requirements or unexpected complications are discovered, the final cost may change. Where reasonably possible, the customer will be informed before additional chargeable work is carried out.

A quote is not a binding contract until it has been accepted by the customer and confirmed by O.Barnes / OB Electrical.

Booking work

Once a customer accepts a quote or agrees to proceed, a booking may be arranged. Appointment times and dates will be agreed as far as possible, but they may need to change due to emergencies, supplier delays, access problems, weather, safety concerns, overrunning jobs, illness, traffic or circumstances outside reasonable control.

O.Barnes / OB Electrical will make reasonable efforts to attend at the agreed time, but time is not guaranteed unless specifically agreed in writing.

Customer responsibilities

The customer is responsible for providing accurate information about the property, the work required, known electrical issues, access restrictions, parking arrangements, safety concerns, asbestos risks, vulnerable occupants, pets, tenants, landlords, managing agents or any other matter that may affect the work.

The customer must ensure that suitable access is available at the agreed time. If O.Barnes / OB Electrical cannot gain access, or if the customer cancels at short notice, a call-out fee, cancellation fee or reasonable charge may apply.

The customer must ensure that the area where work is to be carried out is reasonably clear and safe. Fragile items, furniture, valuables and personal belongings should be moved before work begins where possible.

Electrical safety and standards

O.Barnes / OB Electrical carries out electrical work with proper care and skill and aims to comply with relevant electrical safety requirements, including applicable UK standards and regulations. The website states that work is carried out to BS7671

standards and that the business is registered with NAPIT.

Some work may require inspection, testing, certification or notification under applicable regulations. Where certification is required, the relevant certificate or report will be provided after completion, subject to payment and completion of the necessary testing.

If unsafe, non-compliant, damaged or dangerous electrical conditions are discovered, O.Barnes / OB Electrical may advise remedial work. In some cases, for safety reasons, it may not be possible to complete the original requested work without further remedial work.

Inspection, testing and reports

Inspection and testing services are based on the condition of the installation at the time of inspection. Any report, certificate or recommendation is based on the accessible parts of the electrical installation and the findings identified during the inspection.

An inspection or test does not guarantee that hidden, concealed, inaccessible or future faults will not exist or develop. If access is restricted, if parts of the installation cannot be safely inspected, or if information is unavailable, this may be noted in the report.

Where an EICR or electrical safety report identifies unsatisfactory items, remedial work may be required before the installation can be considered satisfactory.

Emergency electrical services

Emergency electrical services may be available depending on availability, location, urgency and safety. Emergency attendance may be subject to a call-out fee, higher rates or additional charges.

O.Barnes / OB Electrical will take reasonable steps to respond quickly to urgent electrical faults, power outages or safety concerns, but availability is not guaranteed.

Materials and products

Materials, fittings and products may be supplied by O.Barnes / OB Electrical or by the customer, depending on what has been agreed.

Where O.Barnes / OB Electrical supplies materials, the cost of materials may be included in the quote or charged separately. Where the customer supplies materials, O.Barnes / OB Electrical is not responsible for the quality, suitability, safety, compatibility, warranty or performance of those materials.

If customer-supplied materials are unsuitable, unsafe, defective, incomplete or incompatible, additional charges may apply for delays, replacement materials or additional visits.

Changes to the work

If the customer requests changes to the agreed work, the price and timescale may change. Any additional work requested by the customer, or required due to unexpected findings, may be charged separately.

Where practical, O.Barnes / OB Electrical will explain the reason for any additional work and provide an updated price or estimate before proceeding.

Payment terms

Payment terms will be agreed before or at the time of booking. Payment may be required in full on completion, in stages, or in advance for materials or larger projects.

Invoices must be paid by the due date stated on the invoice. If payment is late, O.Barnes / OB Electrical may charge reasonable administration costs, suspend further work, withhold certificates or documents where legally permitted, or take steps to recover the debt.

The customer remains responsible for payment once work has been carried out, even if a third party, landlord, tenant, managing agent, insurer or other person is involved.

Deposits and upfront payments

For larger jobs, specialist materials, custom orders, or work requiring advance purchase of products, a deposit or upfront payment may be required.

Deposits may be non-refundable where materials have already been ordered, time has been reserved, or costs have already been incurred.

Cancellations and delays

Customers should give as much notice as possible if they need to cancel or rearrange an appointment.

If a customer cancels at short notice, fails to provide access, is not present at the agreed time, or causes unreasonable delay, O.Barnes / OB Electrical may charge for wasted time, travel, materials, supplier costs or loss of booked time.

O.Barnes / OB Electrical may need to cancel or rearrange work due to emergencies, illness, supplier delays, unsafe working conditions, vehicle issues, weather, or circumstances outside reasonable control. Where this happens, reasonable efforts will be made to rearrange the appointment.

Workmanship

O.Barnes / OB Electrical aims to provide a high standard of workmanship and reliable, long-lasting results. If the customer believes there is an issue with completed work, they should contact O.Barnes / OB Electrical as soon as possible and provide details of the concern.

O.Barnes / OB Electrical must be given a reasonable opportunity to inspect and, where appropriate, correct any issue before the customer instructs another contractor.

The workmanship guarantee does not cover damage, misuse, tampering, customer-supplied materials, third-party work, pre-existing faults, wear and tear, accidental damage, lack of maintenance, unauthorised alterations, or issues caused by matters outside O.Barnes / OB Electrical’s control.

Damage and making good

Electrical work may require access to wiring, walls, ceilings, floors, fittings, boards, units or other parts of a property. While reasonable care will be taken, some disruption, lifting, drilling, chasing, access holes or minor damage may be unavoidable depending on the nature of the work.

Unless specifically agreed in writing, O.Barnes / OB Electrical is not responsible for plastering, decorating, flooring, tiling, painting, carpentry, boxing-in, making good or cosmetic repairs after electrical work.

Photographs and portfolio use

O.Barnes / OB Electrical may take photographs of work for job records, safety records, certification, evidence of completion, or portfolio purposes. Any photographs used publicly will be used carefully and should not intentionally identify customers or reveal private personal information without permission.

Customers may request that photographs of their property are not used for marketing or portfolio purposes.

Liability

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits or excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or breach of statutory rights.
